چکیده

The warming climate is rapidly changing the circumpolar region, presenting new opportunities and challenges for agricultural production in South Greenland. projected to increase frequency of drought periods, but little known about soil–water retention (SWR) plant available water (PAW) soils region. This study aimed measure SWR PAW Greenlandic evaluate effect organic carbon (OC) clay (CL) content using pedotransfer functions based on OC CL. included 464 soil samples from 20 fields with a wide distribution (0.016–0.184 kg kg−1) contents (0.006–0.254 kg−1). Pedotransfer were successfully developed estimating gravimetric (w) at five potentials (−1500, −100, −30, −10, −5 kPa) PAW. was primary variable governing each potential, evidenced by R2 values consistently above 0.80. −1500 kPa close range reported literature, effects markedly higher between −100 kPa. Overall, this highlights substantial as 1% increased more than 4%, which almost twice value recent meta-study. Our potentially dominating matter balance availability high-latitude agriculture.

Short communication Effect of soil texture, organic carbon and water retention on the compactability of soils from the Argentinean pampas

The Mollisols from the Pampas Region of Argentina have been described as presenting different compactability behaviors under agricultural systems. The purpose of this study was to provide information on the inherent soil factors related to the susceptibility to compaction. Total organic carbon (TOC), texture (CLAY, SILT, SAND), water retention at 0.33 kPa (WR), Proctor maximum bulk density (BDM...

Estimation of Water Retention Curve for Unsaturated Fine Soils

In order to obtain the soil water retention curve of an unsaturated soil which is defined as the relationship between water content and suction, extensive laboratory tests are essential. These laboratory tests are usually costly and time consuming. Moreover, for most practical problems, it has been found that approximate unsaturated soil properties are adequate for analysis. Thus, empirical pro...

Impact of Climate Change on Organic Carbon Removal Efficiency in Jajrood Catchment: From Dam to Water Treatment Plant

Background and purpose: Jajrood River is one of the major drinking water supply rivers in Tehran, so, the effects of climate change on its quantitative and qualitative resources are highly important. This study aimed at investigating the effect of climate change on organic carbon removal in Jajrood basin. Materials and methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, CanESM2 general circula...

Trihalomethane reactivity of water- and sodium hydroxide-extractable organic carbon fractions from peat soils.

Certain organic carbon moieties in drinking source waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta can react with chlorine during disinfection to form potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic trihalomethanes. The properties of reactive organic carbon in Delta waters, particularly those of soil origin, have been poorly understood. This study attempts to characterize trihalomethane reactivity of soil or...

Plant water uptake in drying soils.

Over the last decade, investigations on root water uptake have evolved toward a deeper integration of the soil and roots compartment properties, with the goal of improving our understanding of water acquisition from drying soils. This evolution parallels the increasing attention of agronomists to suboptimal crop production environments. Recent results have led to the description of root system ...
